Its bad that you smoked but sometimes you need to take a break and not work for once. I have the same problem, always working, i cant relax, this is a problem

School is not capable to accurately tell if a kid is smart or not. I got the worst possible grades in school it was actually impressive how low my score was.
I was like the worst student of the entire school, i had to repeat the same grade 3 times!

So you might think I am stupid?

Well I am a working programmer with a bachelors degree, i make games, know and use multiple 3D software for modeling, rigging, texturing and animation, write and record sound and music (piano and guitar) and am as hard working and as disciplined as I possibly can be. I reached alot more in life than some of my old straight As classmates, but I was "the failure"

The school system is fucked up. Doesn't matter what country ur in.
We put our children in these incubators that are only slightly more than occupational therapy that leads to nothing.
Does anyone really think that the stuff you learned past line 6 - 7th grade was actually useful?

Im in the same boat. Just moved 300 km for first junior dev job, underpaid, shit company and shit project.
But at least the co workers are nice.
And i am also underpaid.
I also want to make my own company, working for somebody else is just not a long time solution for me. Im trying to learn everything i can about how to lead a company but its difficult...

I just recently started working and have similar feelings.
Dude... u are working 8 hours (i assume) then you come home and expect to perform like when in college? We are humans not machines. I have a problem where i cant identify with the project I am working on and I also cant really identify with the company I am working in, which is pretty bad.
But that is my personal problem, because in the end I need to be self employed.
There are a handful of conpanies out there that I adore, yet, when thinking about working there I cant imagine doing that for the rest of my life...

I also think about life alot. If you are feeling lost, then dont worry, I feel that way too, and many others probably feel similarly.

If your tasks are hard and you think that you suck then also dont worry, this gets better fast.

I went into programming to make games.

If I spend time playing games now I can't code.

I have to be and want to be up to date and knowledgable on current trends and mechanics so I have to play games

I want to get into Linux right now. I'm thinking about getting a raspberry pi and putting Arch Linux on it, is this viable?
I am a game dev and dont have alot of experience outside of that, but want to expand my horizons a bit.

I once had the idea to code by using as many cursewords as possible just for fun, but was too lazy.
I would probably forget what stuff does and in the end would have to rename everything so I never did it, too lazy.

@PrivateGER eeh, im not really a fan, but I do watch some of his videos. My taste in Music is vastly different, i am not that into rap or electronic music, Im a prog metal guy myself.

I mainly only know of him because I write and record Music and he sometimes does some interesting audio experiments...

This was my university every day.
I went to class not knowing if it would actually take place. One time we sat there for 20 minutes until another professir told us that our teacher for the class was still in mexico (we are in germany).
We also never knew if the pcs would work, some days the servers would not load or the internet would break... abd most of the staff were incompetent idiots...

@dseljan sorry, yes I come off as pessimistic alot and I probably am.

I am very passionate about my work, i am a game dev. There are alot of things I want to make (games and other Stuff including some backend optimisation etc.) And I want to work on it everyday for as long as I am awake which is really not healthy actually. When I talked to the company I am working for we talked about the Projects I would be involved in and it sounded fairly good so I took the position and now I work on a shitty sports game that no one in the team really wants to make and the project I was promised is probably never going to happen.

The worst thing is that I still want to make my stuff. So I come home after 8 hours and work like 5-6 more so I can leaver sooner than later. Unfortunately I also moved for this job and there are no other related jobs in the area. And I cant go back because there are also no jobs where I came from. So yeah I am a little annoyed.

@jamescodesthing thanks! Yeah I hope it will get better. In the worst case I will just leave and start my own company just to fail miserably (probably) unfortunately I dont know shit about how business works so ... yeah...

3 months in as a junior dev and shits crazy.

I got all the achievements in Dark Souls 1. I own every souls game, dark souls 2 and 3, bloodbourne and even demon Souls. I still only finished dark souls 1 every other game is currently in the "games I want to play but dont have the time for" limbo... god damn it i am so slow the remaster will be out before I finish another souls game...

@Codex404 i can give feedback and I do alot of the things I dont want to do just for the sake of a project, thats totally fine for me. Often I even volunteer, because although I dont want to do X, I know that I do give a shit and will do it correctly, at least.

My Problem is that the Project itself is something I am not interested in and its not for customers.

Its like wanting to design sports cars and then working on family vans or something.
