I spent 2 hours fixing eclipse.
I spent another hour getting Java to parse my date and time input.
And I still have to get an SQL query running.
and I need to do 5 more problems like this for a team project.
I seriously detest being dead weight on my team, especially when it is a two person team.
This is friggin bullshit. I'm a 2nd year college CS student! I'd think I'd be a quicker programmer by know! I LEARNED TO PROGRAM IN JAVA FOR TORVALD'S SAKE!
Well. Back to work.2 -
I know this sounds odd, but I really find algorithms things of delightful beauty.
A creative solution to some very deceptively complex problems.
Sure, some implementations aren't the best, but seeing them after just makes me appreciate the time and effort that must have gone into designing things like Merge Sort, Binary Search, Greedy Algorithms, BST, and Dijkstra's Algorithm.
So! If your code is unoptimal, looks terrible, or is a sheer abomination, take a moment to appreciate the little piece of art you've made before you go and make it better.1 -
There is NOTHING more satisfying than having an algorithm suddenly click while you are in the shower.
I got a program for determining Prime Numbers using Extended Euclid Algorithm from ~2 to .28 seconds <35 -
I regret ever picking my CS major every time I stare at my VS Debugger and am stuck reading the values stored in a List<Int>. Why, List<Int>, as the backing for my shortest path, do you not have the proper values after I walk my tree.
I have lovingly set up my Priority Queue. I have followed the class notes and lectures.
Oh why, my List, have your forsaken me?
Oh.
It's a recursion bug. I'm not updating nodes properly.
I'm a dumb ass.2 -
I work for a particular tech company doing chat based support where I troubleshoot a certain email application.
And one of the most common phrases I get is: "Hey Mister IT Guy, I am suddenly missing all of my contacts and Calendars. This super sucks! I had to rebuild my email profile to make my email work again!".
I really wish when they teach computer literacy in school they drilled "Learn How To Back Up Your Junk" more so when stuff like this happens I can get them back up and running in 10 minutes instead of telling the user they are going to have spend hours rebuilding their calendar and contacts.1 -
Im a 27 year old CS student. By the time I graduate, I may be 30 something. How much does age impact my chances in being hired by a tech company?3
