@retoor About Black programmers - I have asked the authors of this study and apparently they have explicitly targeted developers in African countries.
-
@asgs Since Gitee was chosen by the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology of the Chinese government to make an "independent, open-source code hosting platform for China", I doubt that MS will be able to acquire it...
-
@Root ? Yes, it is mine, I am just sharing the fact that it has appeared.
-
@Oktokolo The author is a developer who used to work for Meta, Microsoft etc
-
@molaram I need to check this with my co-authors
-
@happygimp0 "Which of these websites..." - you just need to select one of these websites.
-
@molaram Absolutely! We will analyse the results, submit a paper for review, and once it got accepted I will post the summary of the results and a link to the preprint.

+1 (not really developer, but software engineering researcher)

@Hazarth Some companies have a light bulb: licht on - don't disturb me. The clever bit is that the light goes not only based on your daily planning but also on how you type etc. This started as a research project at University of Zurich (Manuela Züger was the primary investigator), has been evaluated at ABB and now it is being commercialised by Embrava https://emea.embrava.com/pages/flow See one of the authors talking about this project https://youtu.be/WEME8man_rk

@NoMad a.k.a. the site that should not be named :) Unfortunately, in the country where I live sci-hub is blocked but, of course, we have VPN...
For books one might consider gen.lib.rus.ec -
@NoMad The amount of money the publishers are making are *obscene*. At one of our professional organisations the things are starting to change, e.g., they are offering more and more travel support grants and free registrations. So things are slowly getting better.
Pragmatically, you can always ping me and I can try to get you a paper behind the paywall... -
@AlmondSauce Very true. Journals have editorial offices though. The role of an editorial office depends on the journal and is usually limited to technical things such as configuring the editorial management software and checking that all bibliographic entries include page numbers/publication years.
-
@Benedikt This is one of the reasons why we reduced the personal information to the bare minimum we needed for the study.
-
@p100sch Thank you so much, I have fixed the typo
-
@aheisleycook Thank you very much!
-
@mysth Thank you!

@N00bPancakes It somehow looks phony to me - I mean, one cannot be always happy and I have not met many completely selfish people either.
