Well...?

@QAgMire have you tried walking them through a thought experiment? Like, imagine you're in the hospital, and a show stopping bug has been discovered: what can they do, other than wait for you?
Although if they're paying you below the market rate, it's more likely that you'll just quit on them the moment a fair offer of employment comes your way. :p
Though bus score isn't really about compensation - it's about spreading risk. But if they're not paying you fairly, it's unlikely they would have the wherewithal to protect themselves in other areas as well.
@ArcaneEye now I'm imagining a roof with only one tile - analogy works even better. -
I'm not learning it... Other than reading a couple articles and watching a few videos. Am I missing out?
-
I inherited one of these repos once. It can take a while to get everything properly migrated over, especially if you're buried in maintenance tickets daily.
-
@ScriptCoded uggggggghhhhhh
You poor bastard -
Wtf am I even looking at? My heart weeps for you.
-
I think that's very common. We spend our days looking at languages created whole cloth by a bunch of nerds trying to solve their own problems on the side.
No wonder the brain goes a bit fuzzy after reading it for hours and hours on end.
It'd be weird not to -
Only when giving a laptop away.
-
@starrynights89 bash shouldn't be required. I did something very similar for my partner's Windows desktop using python.

I'm in the middle of moving into a new house. Naturally, my friend has taken this opportunity to fill the new fridge/freezer with various beers, boozes, and wines. It's impressive.
Correlated to the new house, I'm now too broke to buy my own drinks. So in answer to the question, I'll be drinking whatever is in that refrigerator! 🤰 -
I finished pooping like five minutes ago. Now I'm just sitting here, reading rants.
Edit: wow my avatar really works for this one -
@import-fun yeah, whatever works for you. Sorry, just saw the last picture now.
I would differentiate between y^ and y0 by adding some whitespace to the beginning of the line. Not sure off the top of my head if there's an equivalent for the end of the line.
Edit: Also I meant "r" in the middle of the first picture (for inserting). So like IiraA -
This is great. Though I would argue to put 'r' in the middle
-
I alias rm to rm -vi for just this reason. If I ever get annoyed with it I just use \rm -fr, but then at least I'm being explicit.
Though that isn't much help on a server 😔 -
It really depends. Though I find most working code (code that earns someone money) ages poorly.
-
@Gregozor2121 velocity is the correct term, because you can still be working hard, crushing tickets, etc, but fundamentally not moving as close to your end goal as you'd like.
It's a good way to visualise the cost of technical debt -
Ah, yes, thanks to Anton D'bougere for this wonderful invention.
So what was your issue? -
1,2,3,5, depending on the time of day.
-
Lol. Though mine would be multidimensional, as I'm usually juggling several, unrelated tickets
-
Mostly new problems, new codebase, new business domain; it's all very exciting.
-
1 hour walking, total.
-
@Hakash link?
-
Nah it's fine. I've seen some godawful ruby, python, Golang, c#, java, etc.
Bad code is bad code, even if it's written in a currently sexy language. Conversely, good code is also still good, even if it's written in a currently unpopular language. -
@devios1 finally watched that video you shared. He made it all seem so simple and common sense. A real language with a purpose.
-
@matsaki95 related to your last point: I've struggled with insomnia on and off my whole life. One of the biggest reliefs was when I stopped worrying about how much sleep I was getting, and instead focused on just resting.
By "resting" I mean just laying in bed with the lights off and my eyes closed. I found that even if I didn't fall asleep all night, I still felt better than if I'd been constantly checking the time to see how late it was.
Invariably, this eventually made it easier for me to relax enough to actually fall asleep for chunks of time throughout the night.
Anyway, I didn't mean to come off as callous towards people with sleep issues. I've simply found that worrying about it only makes it worse. -
Link to the video? It's been on my list for ages, just never took the leap to actually trying it out.
Looks like it may become the wasm standard, so should probably brush up. -
Try waking up earlier. You dip into deep sleep several times a night. If you've got your alarm set to wake you up during one of these dips you end up feeling super shitty.
Diet and exercise also help. Anyway, you're experiencing a known problem with easily googleable solutions.
@rutee07 there is no "supposed;" there is no belonging. Everything before and after us is just as much an aberration. -
Sure do
