What an excellent unproblematic rant about developing and developing related topics. Much helth, such sanity

I am well rested (8+hrs/night) and well fed. These are just the questions that run on loop in the back of my head

Ok follow up question: are you in the process of making clothing from human skin?
-
Wait I just looked at your post history… could you elaborate on the baby raping robots and how they relate to lap dances, sexual preferences, and environmentalism? I’m genuinely curious
-
I’ve been there. Burnout is real. You might try working at smaller startup companies. The good ones require references to get in so it might not happen overnight and networking is a must. But there are places that require you to learn new concepts constantly and even fight to give engineers opportunities to learn other skills (e.g., customer relations, budgeting, marketing) when they’re interested. Start reflecting on what parts of your job (if any) you do enjoy, and try to make a career around that. You might not need to turn your whole life upside down to find a better environment.

@homo-lorens to clarify, I don’t think the op needs anything. I think they’d sort this out on their own even if everyone hated them. I don’t think anyone needs me to post. It’s not about protecting them, it’s about trying to make their day a little better. Maybe I failed at that. I can’t read minds, only they know. Also, I don’t think the fact that this is our culture is something we should just accept
-
@MadMadMadMrMim only if you care, I don’t see why it’s anyone’s business but yours whether you decide to read the whole thread or not
-
@MadMadMadMrMim you know, I agree. I don’t think the post should’ve been taken all that seriously, and I don’t think the poster meant it to be. The comments themselves are serious because of how cruel they became.
-
@bad-frog I also have no issue if you want to debate politics and culture. I only have an issue if the way you go about that debate involves trying to make someone else suffer.
-
@homo-lorens I never said this was the right place for that content, only that the comments are disturbing. I think both of us are in agreement about both of these things. I also would’ve guessed that this is the response it would get. I don’t expect my comments to change anyone’s mind. The only reason I am engaging in this debate to begin with is that if I were in OP’s shoes, it would make me feel a little less shitty, even if one random internet stranger stood up for me. So that’s my goal, make one random stranger I don’t know and don’t agree with feel a little less awful when confronted with all of this grossness. Maybe it’ll work maybe it won’t, but I want to try my best. To compare the level of harassment taking place here to making a mildly sexual post is beyond false equivalency
-
@bad-frog I actually agree with you that this content doesn’t seem in keeping with the type of community we have here. I have no Mira issue with it, it’s just not really a devrant post. I didn’t upvote the post. If the comments here had been about how this is not the place, I would have agreed with them. That was never my argument. What makes me upset are the personal attacks and the type of personal attacks. Also, could you help me understand what it is about my behavior that you feel is a violation?
-
@bad-frog I’m not offended. I’m just sad, because I’ve watched the effect that stuff like this can have on my friends and loved ones. I don’t get in debates like this for fun. I fully expect that most people here will disagree with me, and that it will hurt my reputation on this forum. I’m confused why out of all of the repressed rage and outright anger visible throughout these comments, that the emotion you take most issue with is my sadness and empathy for the poster. You talk about how this post is an affront to your own views. That’s not an emotional reaction, but mine is? I’ll be the first to admit the emotions I’m feeling right now. Will you acknowledge yours? Why is it, by the way, that feeling an emotion like sadness or frustration out of empathy is such a bad thing to begin with? What is the issue with caring about strangers?
-
@bad-frog are you genuinely saying that you truly believe that there is nothing morally amiss about speaking to someone like this? That the fact someone made an only fans joke and posted a picture of their legs means they deserve to be harassed for nude pictures and insulted for their (perceived) sexuality? You would have no issue treating your friends and family like this if they made a similar joke in a more personal context?
-
@bad-frog I agree the original post wasn’t serious. In what world is asking someone for nudes, speculating publicly about their sexuality, and telling them to deal with it not harassment?
-
@bad-frog the comments here amount to more than a lack of applause. If you don’t want a post to get attention ignore it or downvote it, don’t harass the poster for nudes and demand they publicly state their sexuality. Or comment and complain this isn’t the place, tag a mod if you’re really upset. Disagreeing with someone or being annoyed at a post isn’t ground for sexual harassment.
-
Anyone consider what it would feel like for a trans op to read these comments? Or any woman, regardless of whether she is cis or straight being harassed for nudes? Or how it would feel as a human in general? Why is it so important to know what gender op is and how they were born? The post is harmless and silly. It’s legs, we all know what legs are. As a community we can all do better than this. Your sexual arousal or lack thereof is not op’s responsibility

Does it ever occur to spammers that pissing off a forum full of hackers, in addition to being an ineffective form of advertising, could actually be a little dangerous for your business?
-
@Root thanks for the more nuanced answer! Hadn’t heard from someone on the inside yet and really appreciate the perspective
-
@MadMadMadMrMim my point is exactly that: inheritance and other OOP principles as well as strict typing are different concepts than data structures. I was using the java collections api as an example of how even classes named after data structures that implement those data structures are not themselves data structures. Probably could’ve worded it better to avoid the confusion
-
@Root is game dev an industry you’d recommend? I’ve heard the companies tend not to treat employees all that well but I don’t personally know anyone in the industry so all I have are rumors
-
@MadMadMadMrMim it’s more that types and data structures aren’t the same thing. of course you could write implementations of data structures like linked lists, binary trees, DAGs, etc in JavaScript despite the lack of strict typing and there are even cases where this is good design. I was being a little silly with my answer. If OP is trying to study algorithms and data structures, JS probably isn’t the best language to choose. Think of a language like java. In the collections API, List is an interface implemented by ArrayList, LinkList, and others. List, ArrayList, and LinkedList can all be considered types (albeit not primitive ones). ArrayList and LinkedList are types backed by different data structures. Arrays and linked lists as concepts are data structures.
-
@MadMadMadMrMim yes.
