Dynamic typing is very powerful but pretty hard to comprehend. It allows writing beautiful functional code, however if you are sticking with oop - you better have static types

By doing "data = json.parse(data)" you modify parameter, which is considered bad practise, so you should make a new variable for sure.

Personally, I do it like this:

Try{
Return json.parse(data).someParam;
} catch (e){
//Do whatever
}

Much cleaner and does not affect readability.

@crisz because I might want to create public attribute with the same name, but it is already taken by private attribute. Imagine you have car object and it has private _speed stored. Then, you want to make read-only public field speed, with only getter. You may use GetSpeed() instead, but that's much, much worse.

Well, naming privates with underscore in front is common practice. Can't see why you are mad

Any technology out there is flawed in any way or another. The trick here is to select one covering all use cases and being the simplest/fastest to develop.

As others said - NodeJS is fast to build and roll out, however Java is historically more suitable for large applications. It all depends on your needs, problems you want to solve and your capabilities in both technologies :)
