Yup. Big jetbrains fan here .
-
@stackodev agreed. I look at my kids and would rather just chill with them vs burning the midnight candle debugging in chrome or in terminal lol
-
@stackodev I hear ya. Started prior to the dot com boom . Must have gone through a gazillion tech stacks , frameworks, design patterns, server architecture setups etc. and now what . I went to a tech management level for the past few years but got let go because of the tech downturn . Now here I go again . New education. Retraining . Bah.
-
@sideshowbob76 totally sympathize with you Re: being unable to code but having to act as a consultant and help a gazillion other people . Mostly coders.
-
Maybe it’s unsettling because it reminds one of the skulls that the terminator steps on (at least for me it did) …
-
Just curious as to why you didn’t download android studio and clone the repo before you left for the countryside …
-
Miss playing my guitar (goes back to review a couple of PRs after coding all day and architecting a solution )
-
A lot of games I have noticed are rehashed glossy versions of much older games . Like movies and reboots.
-
@sariel what kind of standards are you looking for ? I am language agnostic , so curious … :)
-
@sariel blame the coder not the language
-
@iSwimInTheC gotcha .
-
I would out the company’s name too and post on LinkedIn about them
-
I too want to ask what is the big deal with creating a quick bpmn chart ? Just want to see you can describe the business process in a pretty chart with pseudo tech terminology
-
@Voxera yeah I’ve long lost that skill … but now I am inspired to go back and get that thing out of the dust bin lol
-
@Voxera just missing the forward slash otherwise it was correctly identified . :) https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/...
-
Yup. Between that , ti-994a basic and Atari basic I picked up all my “basic” coding skills from there lol
-
Yup.
-
My teenage / young adult life . In one word “awesome”
-
@electrineer that would be too easy.
-
I use Remote Desktop across several laptops , mixed windows / Mac / Linux . Works well
-
@AvatarOfKaine maybe my comment was misconstrued, but what I was offering was context in the hope that it would help the OP formulate an answer that they were looking for.
We are all bound by our experiences, and the question posted is also related to issues of ethics , the current laws of the country, and personal morals.
Aggh controversial topic for sure
Now I’m just ranting , but hey that’s the purpose of the board in part - to rant. Going to get coffee . -
A web dev student of mine back in the late 90s (female, and yes web dev was taught way back then , I was one of the first profs in the city to do so) asked me the same ethical question . At the time, I had informed her that of the organization had some policy, proof and procedures of “ethical treatment” for workers in the trade then it _may_ be ok - this was before porn sites became aggregators of adult videos from around the world. Nowadays, a lot of “adult” stars seem to have come from the lines of some form of progression of increased social media usage and are thus doing so of their own volition. This would be their choice, and if in this case if they approach you to build a marketing website and a video hosting site then its really a business transaction at this point, you are building a platform for them that can host their own adult videos or cat videos if that is what they want

Angular is good to build mental strength because it puts you under extreme duress when you are coding with it. Admittedly I liked some of its organizational peculiarities , particularly the nice component structure . But that was all. And I moved on.

The science of napping / sleeping says a good 20 minute afternoon nap has benefits for you, increasing alertness, awareness and your ability to focus. Anything other than that the effects appear to go down. That being said, maybe position your nap within 5-10 min of finishing eating lunch ? So it could (possibly) be included with your lunch time . If you wfh, try to engage with team and even superiors to suggest an off time during the day where no meetings are held .

orgAssm = orgAss + m(in + out)
-
@ebrithil three months ? What do you do between the time you indicate your leave and the time one actually leaves? Work as normal? Does one care at that point ?
-
There are plenty of companies with managers out there that would support your propositions. One would hope.
As a former dev, lead dev now in management role, I for one would welcome the suggestion. In fact , I just did . We have started a new project and it’s using the new .NET core and all sorts of fun frills. I suppose that asking a little bit more as to why hasn’t resulted in any reasonable answers other than what you mentioned already ? -
I use edge for work and keep it relatively plugin free. Use chrome sometimes for dev but it needs a little plugin pruning , must admit :) primarily to debug (xdebug, react dev tools etc)
-
@FuckJava “the more you know” . I learned something new today, thanks (my Aussie friends never told me this; also love Australia)

@Midnight-shcode this appears to work with us as well. We do standups at 9:45 though to afford people the rest of the day to work on their own for the most part.
