djeddiej842yA lot of games I have noticed are rehashed glossy versions of much older games . Like movies and reboots.
-
ars140742yLeague of legends, among us, battle royals, etc. Are all custom maps or mods from older games too. They just get a nice wrapping.

@djeddiej Oh my god, who would've thought that art builds on prior ideas? Seriously, look at this and tell me that Rocket League didn't expand meaningfully on the core idea and adapt it appropriately to the changed circumstances.
-
Incorporating prior art has one condition: The product has to interpret the core ideas and adapt them to the changed environment. A distinction should be made between elements of the source material integral to the original author's ideas, and artifacts of the technical limitations they encountered that no longer exist.
I think Rocket League did justice to its source material, they retained the arcade style and the core mechanic and adapted them to the modern world. -
On the other hand, Among Us is a terrible adaptation of both Space Station 13 and Town of Salem. It tried to adapt a mechanic that only works in long form games with lots of social interaction, but because it's a mobile game, it gets rid of all the social bandwidth that makes it work. The result is, naturally, that the only way to play a meaningful game of Among Us is with friends over VC.
And the tasks have no relation to anything, they could form a meaningful dynamic system but that would require thought from the player. -
not really, though.
"soccer with cars" isn't what i would call "an idea attributable to a specific game"
what makes rl rl is sommersault doublejumps, flying/aerials, and having to get your driving and action timings into sync with the ball bounces.
all of which require third dimension.
therefore, rocket league is its own thing, which only shares the non-attributable "soccer with cars" starting point with whatever is the thing you posted.
what you said is like saying that Infinity: Battlescape is really just a rehash of Asteroids, because in both the player controls a shooting spaceship.
Or that Lord Of The Rings, 50 shades of gray and Harry Potter are all just a rehash of dictionary, because they all contain words. -
kiki351882y@Midnight-shcode can you share the date of your PhD ceremony in straw man building? I want to attend

@lorentz whats more impressive is that SS13 came out of a completely obscure and otherwise entirely irrelevant platform, BYOND.
It would be like if you told me pokemon launched on game & watch or doom was first released on a ti-calculator. -

Fun fact — Rocket League is basically the game from 1977 called Car Polo.
