@UnmutableToday how is it unprofessional when a bug causes production to go down at 2 in the morning and you need to fix it FAST? How is it unprofessional when your 90 day contract doesn't get renewed due to sudden funding shortfalls and you don't get time to fix your "quick patches"?

I never said I carelessly push crap code (I usually adhere to a standard) but sometimes getting a bug fixed is more important than being pristine.

Even as someone who spends a lot of time researching design patterns and code cleanliness techniques, I've pushed some real 💩 code to production with the intention of fixing it later.

Later becomes tomorrow, then I change jobs without ever getting time to go back and clean up stuff.

Business demand + clean code don't always marry.

Like I'm going to a friggin business meeting. I hate it.

I see that this is a "suck it and see" kind of situation. Seeing that Gitflow and feature branch both provide a good collaborative workflow, I think I'll start off with feature branch (since it's simpler) and move up to Gitflow if we realize we need some more organization.

@itsundef I think the latter is the more appealing route seeing that I'll be replacing my mom's and my wife's phones with whatever I decide to go with.

Sure Apple will collect some data, but at least my phone won't be a fire hose spraying my personal information at advertisers and other interested parties. It does mean that I'll have to put up with Apple's questionable design decisions, but... 🤷‍♂️

@RantSomeWhere alright, now when you say no Google services, you mean no Google Play Services or no YouTube, Maps, etc.? I hear YouTube and stuff are dependent on GPlay Services on Android.Is it the same on iOS?

@RantSomeWhere points on AOSP noted, but in my experience with flashing custom roms, getting a 100% functional device was hit or miss - one component or the other didn't work depending on the phone I had.

Since I'm looking for a more pick-up-and-use flow, I guess iOS is the lesser of the two evils?

@Nanos unfortunately, though this isn't a start-up - it's a Government entity firing someone isn't a very easy process. In most cases they just wait until your contract ends then they don't renew (this can take several years).

Notpad++ has it's warts but for some reason I just can't shake it. I always end up going back to it even after VSCode and Atom. It's my default hey-what's-in-this-file inspection tool.
