I had to teach a networking course for a few years, to students who did not even speak English all that well. It was hell for all concerned.
We had a 270 page manual to get though in 6 weeks and hundreds of abbreviations and terms they had never heard of.
I am so happy I don't have to do that anymore! -
Apologies Android Studio, it was an ID10T error after all..
It wasn't crashing, it was waiting on the debugger to pass a breakpoint because I had foolishly ticked some boxes without thinking about the implications.
Now happily working again! -
@lotd I did ask him because I remembered what his PC was like the one time I went there to help him setup something.. he didn't see anything strange in *other* websites looking like that. It was only when his own business site sprouted weird content that he moaned about it.
-
@deadpool88 LOL yeah that's it ;)
-
@heyheni I told him to.. who knows? I don't much mind losing this customer :)
-
I can see a stackoverflow clone on the horizon..
-
This happened to me last week. Worst thing is, it completely screwed up my Android project, had to start over. One can lose a lot in half an hour. And it broke my emulator system image, had to download a new one. Weird.

@drRoss they've given up replacing cables.. now peddling satellite.. 1Gb per month for over $150.. we went for a competitor.. same price but uncapped. Ah well. I do love living here :)
-
@drRoss yeah it's my home :) We have a lovely property in the mountains. Just a pity about the internet :)
-
@drRoss This is what is left of my landline..
-
@drRoss we learn to be very very patient... Or we rant!
-
@drRoss they steal the copper cable and sell it for scrap. Most rural areas have no landlines left.
And where there was fibre, they stole that and weaved little mats to sell to the tourists.
Life in Africa :) -
@skonteam It gets extremely expensive. This 1mbps (not Mbps) uncapped connection already costs me about $150 per month. To double the rate costs more than twice as much. As I understand it, South Africa has the highest data costs in the world.
-
@drRoss Beautiful South Africa. Where my lovely 1Mbps ADSL line got stolen and now I'm stuck with this crappy sattelite connection :(
-
@heyheni for sure!
-
@heyheni Yeah I can go to town in daytime and go get stuff, but this is my evening project and town is far away down a nasty dirt road. Also, I can't seem to get everything.. there is always something else that is still needed.
I suspect astronauts have faster internet than me :( -
When you live in "rural" South Africa, and there is no DSL, because the cable got stolen, and you have to get satellite internet.. 1mbps for about $150 per month. Note that it's mbps and not Mbps. And I've not gotten speeds more that 130Kbps because this is a heavily contested link. Sigh. I live 16km (10 miles) outside of a regional capital city.
-
@julianmd Unfortunately not :)
-
@julianmd The dreaded blue screen of death and couple of hours of not starting windows. I eventually just did a factory recovery and it is fine now.
-
@NoNameCode It has been stuck for hours. I can't get out of it.
-
@sebastian Then it should be disabled/dimmed out at the point where it can't be used anymore...
-
And typing <string> when it should be <strong> and vice versa..
-
Constantly typed 'slef' when learning Smalltalk in Programming 101.
-
Had to extract all Messagebox strings from a huge Delphi project once to spell check. Found identical string with typo 233 times. Their idea of code reuse was to copy and paste it as needed. I quit after a month.
-
@shittywebdev LOL I think my comment came over wrong. Meant I said "Not using VCS?" when we started the work.. was told it is too much hassle for one website. Which is rant-worthy by itself :)
-
@seer yeah that's what I said...
