Seems reasonable

@ausername I haven't run the latest beta on the iOS devices, but didn't they essentially bring back the grouping of notifications and thats pretty much it?
-
Actually i found these things fairly "easy" and the math behind it isn't to hard,which of course always depends on what you do and learned, but let me tell you one thing: The actual math and physics behind semiconductors is MUCH harder.
-
@gintko compare the K&R style with the Whitesmiths style: Using the Whitesmiths style i can look at the code and see the structure at a glance, independently of the tool i use. It is clearly obvious just from looking at it. Personally i think it is also more visually pleasing, but that is up to taste.
Python is a completely different topic. I really like that python has minimized the usage of brackets, especially for the if, for, while and def keywords. It is the most pleasing of all, and intendation works perfectly there -
@gintko realistically how many lines of code can one really see? Also: Vertical mode is a thing for screens nowadays. And all that nice amount of code is totally useless if you have to remember yourself which bracket is used where.

@Cyanide
while (x == y) {
something();
somethingelse();
}
BTW: Devrant needs code blocks. -
@cha-m-ra pretty much, yeah. Obviously I would rather work somewhere where the ideals match mine. But I am not going to be that arrogant to presume that my values are inherently better or worse than those of other people.
-
As long as its legal and the pay is really good, sure, why not. Actually build something that goes against my values recently, build a website for a client who does all of that nature/homeopathy stuff. They payed a lot of money for it though.
-
@hube Totally agree with you. The future of software development is more abstraction and easier to use languages and frameworks, that allow for even layman to apply it to their problems.
-
First of all: Python is NOT a toy. Not even by a long shot. It is a very stable tool, that performs well if you know when and how to apply it. It is not though a final solution for everything and everyone. People seem to have a problem with that concept anyway, i have seen a lot of shit in my day as well.
Python is perfect for the scientific world. Python is perfect if you want a general purpose language for web dev, where you can pretty much code the whole backend and frontend in python. It is a great quick tool and as a "local" language, removed from the web world, it is pretty much unrivaled in its vast stuff of frameworks. Its integration with compiler languages like C++ provide a possibility to outsource the quick stuff and build the logic in python.
Just look at the syntax. Its dead simple, rarely other languages are as readable as python.
And last of all: It is fun to code in it, it is fun to use it. That is an aspect that many people seem to forget as well. -
@psukys dude. I won't refractor that fucking piece of garbage code even with a gun to my head. It would probably be easier to just rewrite it with a designated web framework. There is so much code multiplication, bad Design in there. Also no comments and no tests. I will complete my task with that piece of shit and never touch it again if I don't have to.
-
Well at least leave a link 😁
-
@linuxxx what else then?
-
@linuxxx Microsoft is not Windows only you know. The dev Stuff is actually pretty good. And again: as long as Stuff is open source i don't care who is behind it as long as its good.
-
@linuxxx that is some narrowminded thinking right there. As long as things are open source, everything is fine. And Microsoft got so much better than 10 years ago
-
Kotlin is probably the best thing that ever happened to java and android. I ADORE that language so much, i can't even.
Java is a terrible, terrible language for a mobile platform like android. It is way to convoluted, has a terrible unreadable syntax and is generally way to complicated for a goddamn app.
<3 Kotlin. -
@AleCx04 IT IS! And don't get me started on their locking mechanisms. Because they don't exist, or at least not builtin.
-
@SPie while the prices in Vienna are alright, it still suffers from the same problems as everywhere else. I remember my days on the U1 in summer.
-
@ChainsawBaby sometimes I wonder: how come you Scandinavians seem to do things always the right way?
-
@Alice I mean, i get why cities and governments want you to use public transportation. It is the much greener, much more sustainable solution. I just don't get why it has to be so shitty and expensive. If you want people to use it, make it good and people will use it.
Also: The best solution would probably be biking within a city. Except the dutch, nobody really has that figured out. Which infuriates me even more. Why do i need the gazillionth new road for motor vehicles? BUILD MORE FUCKING BYCICLE PATHS! -
Can totally recommend the liberty plus headphones. They’re awesome.
-
@NyxMC there is a simple solution: Use a VPN to your home network. If you have a running rapsberry, chances are you have other Hardware as well in your network (a NAS or something). This fixes the problem for me, and its save as well, as my home network runs through another VPN Provider.
-
Yeah, developers are sometimes like a dog. Always chasing the latest toy. It is (as pretty much always) just a simple matter of the right tool for the right job. All of those three things you mentioned ARE powerful. It's just that people tend to overuse patterns.
-
@nightowl i think it is probably a matter of philosophy. The Pi is lightweight, quiet and small (and many of use have a couple of them laying around any way probably), which makes it ideal for a task like that.
On the other hand if you have a server, you can manage everything centrally... -
@nightowl Pi. Everything else really doesn't make much sense, except if you would have a dedicated low power server in your network. I thought about adding it to my synology, but that seemed not very useful as well, as it doesn't run 24/7.
-
@BaconatorNoVeg YES! Thank you very much. You improved my quality of internet life so much!
-
@AL1L i don't particularly care about the ads, as long as they don't track me, dont play any Sound or Video automatically and are not overly intrusive. 95% of All ads don't fullfill that criterion, might as well block them All.
-
@zankar While i don't know about uBlock, i used/use Adblock Plus and Tampermonkey. Adblock Plus works on a totally different level, and truly alters the content of the website (hence blocking facebook ads for example), while Pi-Hole blocks via DNS, which means the code for the ads never even reach your Device.
Pi-Hole is massively useful, but i use Adblock and Tampermonkey as well, for things where Pi-Hole doesn't work.
Also in comparison to classic Adblockers, Pi-Hole blocks stuff from your whole network. So say goodbye to Ads on your phone, your tablet or any other device. It also filters out malicious dns providers as well, providing another layer of security for all users within i a network. -
@kamar Right? That is actually terrifying. And you can really feel the speed increase in page loading speed. It is ridicolous.
-
@Devnergy you will not regret it, it is brilliant!
