What's worse is being asked to do a code review and the guy has like 20 additional changes in the code that have nothing to do with the actual fix.

They should have used a VPN

Seniority wins in some places

If you were around when digg jumped the shark, it's the same thing

They got rid of herds and forced the use of handles. All along though, people were complaining about how handles were on by default, but they didn't listen
-
Should have made up a different status like "no, not done yet. Almost though"
-
Code is never done. It is only "released"

Best part: he gave them a delivery date before talking with the team
-
@xroad occasional is the key word there. Also, we need to keep work in small chunks. Not huge efforts. With that, there should be no surprises.
-
So you start 40 minutes before your meeting trying to make up a status rather than actually doing work. I wish I were joking.

Not just a student, but passionate about what you are doing

I do a lot of 3D printing so I can appreciate this

@marcel I can confirm through experience that it happens in any size company

Welcome to office politics. And titles don't mean squat.

3 billion devices. 2 billion of them are shitty.

Better yet, let's have 3 scrums throughout the day to interrupt your work and make you feel like you need to report out progress, even if none has really been made.

That's what I mean as well. They have an idea from the 50,000ft level, but no clue on the details or how to execute on it. The ideas come easy. It's all about execution.

@chewbacca the smart mirrors are very cool and a great place to start because the code is widely available for free. Go for it!
-
I'm building a Amazon echo clone now using Pi Zero. Also making it hands free (which it is not supposed to be). That is a perfect use for Pi. If you want to check temps, weather, or do basic IoT with sensors, Arduino is perfect and cheaper
-
@chewbacca do it then. It's not a bad deal. Saves you the trouble from having to order a case, power supply, SD card, etc. I would also recommend thinking of a use first which will help determine if you need a Pi or Arduino.
-
Ideas are a dime a dozen.
-
There is certainly a reason why it is called a "Startup". Good luck OP
-
I saw that too, but there are probably a lot of extra parts in there that you will never use unless you are a complete newbie to the Pi and Arduino. Other options that still would be cheaper include getting just the Pi (about $40) or even going with a Pi Zero ($5) depending on the project you want to build.

@nauer don't leave us hanging. What is it?

Time for a round of table tennis. What? You have no game room??

Livin' on the edge

@pelonchasva I like your attitude, but an ERP system is a pretty major app to start with. I would recommend starting with something much smaller to get your "feet wet".
-
There are several open source ERP systems out there. Just pick one and charge him to set it up. Making your own from scratch would be a nightmare unless you plan on supporting and developing it long term.
