Apply where you see you fit best. Sometimes experience is overlooked if you are determined enough and can prove knowledge in their environment with determination to learn their ways.
I hired a newbie fresh from College for a position that I put required 3+ years in Rails. He hasn't let me down so far and brings a different perspective to projects than my Senior dev. -
Run bro

Don't see that on my end
-
I always recommend EDX or Coursera for the free courses. You learn the same things.

Werner Koch, age 53, Email Encryption Software relies on this one guy.

@reesmid There's no perfect language. Each have their strengths and weaknesses. Really depends on the project your taking on if your going solo or what languages your career requires.
There's a ton of free courses online even university courses (EDX, Coursera, Udacity)
Know the basic concepts and you can learn any language, it'll be a matter of syntax change and functions.
I'd recommend you read Clean Code by Robert Martin after you've taken a CS course. -
Dremel tool works but the left handed drill bits are faster

@Engyne you pretty much answered your own question. "Almost every game studio you work on use Mac"
Go for it, you won't regret it. But do get the SSD for MacBooks and 16gb ram+ -
@azuredivay thanks for the correction. Don't use it personally, didn't know there was a difference.
-
VS is now available on Mac, as for WinAdmin use Microsoft Remote Desktop for Mac.

@reesmid keep it up. Java is hot in tech. It's one of the must knows.

Everyone's posting their setup so I decide to post mine.

Not sure why you would ever code in hex much less pass up sex
-
@monothorn Push through it. View other people's code that implements that concept. Go back to learning it, try to build something with what you learned.
Most importantly if your stuck because it's hard, come back to it after a day or two but go over what you do know. That should remove the mental block. -
And no the fusion drive won't cut it
-
@wordpress you need to get the SSD drive.

@g-m-f 😂

I fully support women in any industry especially tech.
Wife's very active with Rails Girls community and I'm very proud to work next to her. -
@magis naw don't worry. Master the foundations and you'd be able to pick up any programming languages and for the rest just be able to look up what you want to do with the code and modify that to your liking (or clients).
10+ years in Dev/Design/Ops.
In our world things are constantly changing but if you know how they work it doesn't really matter.
Best of luck! -
@nikisweeting thanks! Looks like a good refresher
-
@jckimble yeah takes a bit to get used to after coming from another project with different languages.
