I'm a student and I take courses on Coursera, it's because the education system sucks.
-
I wouldn't feel stupid. That's a pretty stupid place for them to put a key like that. It's the opposite of that key's expected behaviou.
-
They're all in the USA, why would I ever want to go to one of those?
-
Much better than finding out they were better than present you!
-
I understand being angry at linux, but how anyone can prefer a mac over anything is beyond me. I hope it goes well for you when you try again!
-
Welcom, good first rant! But come on, lose the tags.
-
@JKyll And what about debit/checking cards? Sorry man, I know it's not your fault, but that's an inane question on multiple levels.
-
@JKyll Where do they usually ask that kind of question? Never heard it where I'm from, usually the cashier can infer how I intend to pay from me handing over either a card or some cash...
-
@irene That's not a framework.
-
2 Computers and 2 laptops? That's just two laptops...
-
That's not really a paradox is it though. You're just moving the time you spend on devRant from before your work to after it.
-
@Codex404 I'm with @RTRMS, it's been in node for a while now. Make sure you're using current and not LTS, I have no idea if it's in there or not.
-
@Noob Haha, I think one of us is misunderstanding here. I was quoting you, did you mean to say 'as much info as possible' or in fact, the opposite? :P
-
@Noob As much info as possible? :P
-
This is my favourite rant in a long time, thanks!
-
Lucky you managed to learn that about her early. Dodged a bullet.
-
Should've changed it to tab invaders!
-
Done the same thing. Check your hashes people :P
-
It's actually a little bit insane. Anytime I'm using JS and search for something, even really simple like making a post request in nodeJS. People suggest 3 different libraries that can do it, instead of the 3 line vanilla solution...
-
@Root You're a wife and a dev husband? ;P
-
If you couldn't wake yourself up it wasn't really a lucid dream though?
-
Code in that context is not countable. 'those codes' should be 'that code'.
-
You have a serious ambiguity problem in number 2. Careful what you wish for.
-
Great job! Now try and do the same thing without JQuery, and do that every time you think about using JQuery :P
-
I (kind of) recently moved from massively favouring C++ to using NodeJS a huge amount and I have to say that I think modern Javascript is pretty awesome. I'd choose it over Python with barely even a second thought.
Fuck NPM though. -
I literally just did this yesterday too. How is it not in the normal settings?
-
I'm on VSCode's side too. Atom has Github specific stuff which annoys me. And Sublime's not open source. Both small things but VSCode has neither, so I like it :)
-
@Root I completely understand that sometimes our transliteration is weird. Like maybe Mexico should be spelled Mehico or something. And tortilla be written as tortiya so people's pronunciation is closer to the native word.
But the fact is that they aren't written like that, and people have their own word for those things. It's a different word after it's moved into English, it doesn't need to be the same. -
I don't see other languages taking the word for something and attempting to pronounce it with English sounds. But I've certainly heard words that are just a rip off of the X language word into Y language.
It makes way more sense to use the sounds that people know and use every day. -
@Root I understand perfectly what you said. You changed nothing with that second post.
It's not CORRECT pronunciation, because it's not the language you're speaking. You might like it, but to downright say that it's correct is wrong. A language has its own word for something. That word may be based on the origin word, but not the same. Pronouncing the loan word the same as the origin doesn't really make sense. You could argue that it's better, but it's almost impossible to achieve consistently (see my examples above).
Accents ARE different character sets. They're not in the English alphabet, and they're not standardised across the languages that use them. Which means that writing a word with the accent achieves nothing. I was being extreme with the completely different character sets example. But it makes the point that writing something people don't understand is meaningless.
