Description
I was member of a site which promised to send emails after I'd die to people of my choice. Unfortunately that side went bust, but I'm still alive. So, I'm building such a site myself using WordPress (yuck) Anyone interested?

    Why are you using a framework even you hate?
  • 2
    @620hun
    Just because...
  • 1
    @Alice
    Not if the system is designed with provisions for such occasions
  • 1
    does that app purge all your online content of your choice too?
    e: something like dead man's switch

    I mean i like the idea but.... Php....

    @ganjaman PHP, like any programming language, is a tool. It depends on what you use it for.

    @CoffeeNcode @ganjaman

    Maybe he meant he is not a php developer

    @Alice
    Ability to create vacations, ability to nominate a 2nd person to be contacted if you go AWOL,...

    @FuckJava
    "Maybe he meant he is not a php developer"

    haha, sure. if you read such lines here, it certainly doesn't stand for "sorry pal, I'd like to contribute, but I don't know how to program in PHP :(("
    :D

    @Alice
    You know there's a reason I asked for collabs. Ideas. I'm open to suggestions

    Also, if someone kidnaps me, they will send me back or kill me within 24 hours so I'm not worried
  • 1
    @FuckJava I'd be a little worried about the latter part, lol
  • 2
    @CoffeeNcode a cock torture device is also a tool but i would rather not use it for anything
  • 1
    @norman70688 i actually dont know php, i tried it years ago and it was such a clusterfuck that i couldnt be bothered to learn it

    @CoffeeNcode
    Everybody dies. There's no escaping it

    @Alice
    Everybody dies. I am more than willing to quicken mine

    @ganjaman PHP has improved significantly from version 5.3 upwards. It's actually very usable right now. And far from being a torturing device
  • 1
    @CoffeeNcode cock torture devices have greatly improved since the middle ages and now you dont get tetanus if you use them

    Also it wasnt an allegory, i just couldnt think of any other tool i wouldnt use

    @CoffeeNcode
    It's still a torturing device. More refined, yes. But still a torturing device

    @FuckJava on what do you base this?
  • 1
    @CoffeeNcode
    Just an example
  • 1
    @FuckJava granted. But every language has its own way to do things. I mean, look at JS
  • 1
    @CoffeeNcode
    Don't talk to me about anything that has Java in its name, specially JS. JS is to programming as a bare rock is to intelligence
  • 0
    @FuckJava don't you think that's a little condescending?
  • 1
    @CoffeeNcode
    I wouldn't know. I primarily write in C and Assembly. Script languages look dumb, useless, overtly insecure and unoptimized to me

    @FuckJava they look that way to you, and you haven't tried... Alright then.

    Good to know you're still alive :D

    The project sounds really interesting to me, would love to get involved! Plus, I am comfortable with PHP/WP.

    Happy to talk about it ;)

    @FuckJava cool, thanks!

    How about doing it this way:

    Grant a killswitch to N people. If M people, where M <= N, activate the killswitch then you are asked if you are indeed deceased. If you do not answer after X amount of time, which can be specified, activate whatever life-cleanup services you want. The latter don't need to be part of your application.

    Seems to me less error prone than assuming death after some amount of time.

    @FuckJava Just wondering, would you consider writing the project in Java instead?

    @AlmondSauce
    Smart question

    Business knows no zeal. If this were a business venture, and Java provided obvious benefits, yes

    @FuckJava - I mean no disrespect, but this is the best comment I've read anywhere, on any channel all week.

    Personally, I like the idea. I suppose it could use a little refinement and a slick web app. Nothing at all wrong with PHP, just more prone to user (or developer error) than say a more restrictive framework (which I tend to favor for that reason).

    Wordpress... It's ok for a blog I guess, and clearly also for making your idea manifest, so well done for actually getting something onto a publicly accessible server.

    If I were you, I'd give it some thought, take a few test swings at ideas, but don't take it too seriously. Remember to have fun, when it stops being fun, it is terribly difficult to come back.

    I really hope nobody gets abducted or killed, the mood in here got super serious, super quickly. I appreciate there are real dangers, but no website could change that anyway.

    Just live your best life, keep learning, keep growing and have fun dammit! :)

    @tekashi PHP7 is as competent as any other established language. Not my weapon of choice, but it will get the job done. Wordpress is the one that makes me cringe a bit, hehe
