It horrifies me how many "senior developers" in our company do not understand branching in code repositories....

Senior ≠ knows stuff. He/she is just working for a longer time

I'm classed as senior but I don't know any SVN. But if I worked with then I would definitely make sure I did

Can not figure out this rant.. same as saying front-end devs do not know all js libraries all css tools..
You can be senior if you know how to create projects or structured it does it mean that if you senior you should know all existing tools or feature tools?

I'm a Sr dev. But I have to agree some of the older Sr dev I know have problems using source control. Young developers pick it up faster. No dev should fail to understand this IMO

@rim01 it's git, one of the most famous and useful tools. If you were carpenter, would you excuse another carpenter for not knowing what a drill is?

Git is not most important tool.. same as IDE. Can you write and run program without expensive IDE or without git? Yes you can so it is not the main thing

@rim01 tools like git or ides are there to make us easier our life. Just imagine a book editor not using a printer just because "you can perfectly make a book without one" Reject tools and methods you don't understand is medieval. You work with code, you have to know your shit, and others shit.
