I always wonder why people complain about php being horrible, then I actually see the code they write.

It's like complaining "I can't believe I have to use such a horrible desk" when it's littered with empty coffee cups and yesterday's lunch.

    PHP is too forgiving.

Declaring strict_types does help a bit though.

Albeit imo one of the beauties is that you can get away with some quick and dirty script for one off uses..

I work with PHP and it is in fact an horrible language poorly implemented. Ask any dev who worked with its source code.

Working with It doesn't mean always using it as a slave language. If you work with WordPress or similar solutions you're working with other's people code. And protecting a solution from hacks become a nightmare. Write me next time your solution gets pierced continuously because a FB plugins is incredibly badly written. I'll tell you how to avoid it.
