Not sure which is more painful for a dev machine - 13" screen or only 8GB of RAM

Either way, I have both 😢

Why would you need more than 8GB of RAM?

@Andi Because I'm currently using 8GB of RAM and 6GB of swap, and that's showing the machine down :)

The windows I have open atm are Android Studio, Insomnia, Slack, some terminal windows and a few Chrome tabs (~10)

    15.4" 2gb ram Celeron CPU.

@Ezard Seems odd. I have never managed to get over 8GB before and I play new games at max settings while watching multiple twitch streams and more...

    I use 16GB of DDR4 though...

Imac at work has 8GB RAM, I never open Android Studio and Slack
To be precise, either only Android Studio or everything else.

Use slack web, and use Firefox or some browser with less ram usage, if on windows I go to Edge when I really am short in ram on my laptop

I'd say the screen is worse

    I feel your pain

@nik123 well.. Firefox with a couple of tweaks.

    Programming languages.

Also clang + llvm ftw ;)

@Andi when you work with servers and VMs sometime 8Gb is a bit tight and some IDEs are pretty demanding, so 16Gb is often better 😅

@nik123 i haven't dug too much into the nitty gritty.

I have had to "patch" some builds, but it's been fairly smooth sailing without too much looking up.

I find my computer running much cooler when compiling and mostly stuff feels a bit smoother.

    - Of course, that's just my personal experience.

And here I am, only using 4gb ram :/

14" Lenovo laptop with 8GB of RAM is love. Really all I need. That being said, Android studio is not coming near it, I know what curses it brings with it. That can stay on the desktop.

IntelliJ Idea is really all I run, aside from some terminals and chromium. And boy does it run well 😎
