Would love some insight into who is using what and why.

I don't use any of those because well

I don't want to have my whole life recorded and stored by companies which are also integrated in things like PRISM

@Linux what this guy said. Keep in mind that both services are provided by companies with a very close relationship to some three letter agencies and a business model of making money off of people's data.

I'd say if you had to go with one then i would choose Amazon as they are less data oriented than Google.

    None. Wait.

Answered none not because of privacy or data giving concern. You know the risks, you like the tools, choice is yours. But suggested not to try them yet because they are not even a proper tool yet. Give it a year or two. Let them fight. If you use any of those right now, you are just a lab rat or someone who pay money and personal data to them while working as test user without getting paid.

I have Google Home. Functionality is pretty basic, but it does a few things well. Good for checking weather and time.

I also started doing some home automation with my lights using Lutron, and Google Home is able to interface pretty well with Lutron smart devices.
