I was going to show my boss DevRant. Due to my quick thinking of past and future rants pertaining to said boss, I decided not to. Quickly switching to Instagram seemed like I was in the clear, I just had to find a funny picture of... a DevRant ad... "Oh what's that app? Didn't you have that one?"
Then a client walked in!!!
Never have I been, nor will I even be, so relieved to have a client storm into the office!

This is a great story :) I'm just curious though - is there anything that would make you more open to sharing the app? It helps us a lot when people do share it with their co-workers/friends, so I'm just curious.

But I definitely see why some people might be hesitant (while there's a lot of people who aren't). It comes down to personal preference I think but I'm trying to see if there's anything we can do to make people feel safer.

I'll just butt in for a sec here. I'm in the same boat as he is. I want to share, but I realized I can't change my username, it's my gaming name, and everyone in the office knows who that is. If there was like a display name or way to change user names would be preferable. Or I can just create a new account, but don't want to. (And as a developer, I know how annoying it is with multiple accounts)

An anonymous feature would be great!

Yeah an anonymous feature would be a great way to resolve scenarios like this. I actually deleted and recreated my account personally.

Perhaps some kind of post as alias option? You could reserve a unique alias in your profile and explain it with something like:

"For posts you'd prefer to keep anonymous"

It'd resolve all issues I currently have around sharing this app with team members.

This might provide the benefit of anonymity without changing the feel of the app?

Dfox- don't worry! I love to show DevRant! I've shown my coworker at the next desk nearly every rant on here, I've even tried to show my mother some haha!
I was worried my boss would misunderstand and wonder why I have an app for developers to rant about work, miss the humor and think it was for dissatisfied employees, then spin it into a crazy idea about how I hate working there...
I mean I do, but I just didn't want to explain that I do!

To support and echo others here, having an optional ability to post anomously would do the trick.

Thanks for the feedback everyone. We appreciate the great ideas and I'm adding this to our list of todo's and things that we want to try to integrate into the app!

+1 of course there are all the other bug fixes, etc that need to go in but this is one of those features I feel will really drive user engagement. A way to "checkbox" post anonymously as you're ready to submit would be the best. Put a flag in that posts table, done!
