What are these? Are they like webpages written on trees?

I prefer just installing a compiler and maybe an IDE and smashing my face into the keys until the errors stop.

@MikeOcasio It's not the best book in my opinion. Pushes too much to the reader, doesn't explain enough, moves way too slow. "Google it" is not an acceptable answer in educational texts.
