Ever since humans transitioned from hunting-gathering to farming, cats saved an unimaginable number of people. Dogs are fine at hunting and guarding the household, but they’re not sneaky enough to catch mice.
Mice destroying your food stash meant death by starvation for your whole family, no exceptions. Only something as agile, sneaky and alert as a house cat could catch mice effectively.

think the average mouse has an IQ of 110 or something which is kind of funny

I can't even validate this. I tried to Google it but now all the search results are people trying to sell you garbage. I just remember it was higher than humans so I found it funny

Cats were great against mice, but if you had a rat infestation you use dogs. Well, you used both, but dogs had their distinct uses in hunting rats. There are dogs specifically bred to hunt rats. Like Jack Russel Terrier for instance. Or the aptly named Rat Terrier.

Always nice if there's a solution worth 5,- euro (the cat)

The reviews on the park where I live are very good - but serious comments about the cat epidemic we have here. We have 20/30 cats. These bastards don't even want to cudlii
