Are the game devs gonna use unity now?

Nah, I bet Unity lost the gamedevs forever

Why learn c# if c++ or rust exist!

Unity was and still is a good engine for the majority of games. Don't be naive and think other companies wouldn't pull exactly the same thing they tried to. At the end of the day they all want your money and they're gonna get it. When china is done subsidizing epic with their blood money or when fortnite stops being a money printer, epic will change their tone too

Only exception is if valve would have bought unity, then maybe not, because valve just does valve things ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

@12bitfloat Godot wouldn't, and due to the license, can't.

Tell me more about this China thing with Epic though. I have not heard about this.

@Demolishun Tencent have a large stake in Epic IIRC

Good point about Godot, but Godot isn't really comparable with Unity or Unreal yet

@12bitfloat then why did developers using Unity stop games they were in mid development on., then put money into Godot? Some of the studios are putting money into and effort to get the multi-person development aspect of Godot up to industry standards. The focus is on studio like workflows. I know the 3D side has some work to do, but the 2D side is really mature.

@Demolishun Not being on the same level doesn't stop people from switching, especially if in affect. They aren't on the same level of maturity, that just can't be argued with.

they already had to pay the cost of switching so unlikely

Unity shit on their cake in front of their customers. They’ve since cleaned it off.

UnrealEngine… Epic has TenCent shitting on the bakers.

Godot’s cake just doesn’t look as pretty or taste quite as nice, but it’s clean and still beautiful.

Valve’s Source cake is just fine, but niche. It’s angelcake, and will always be angelcake.

Amazon’s Lumberyard grew mushrooms, and got replaced by a CryEngine fork, but I haven’t heard anything about it. Nobody wants to eat a fork anyway.

RPG Maker (etc.) are store-bought sheet cakes with custom printed frosting. Pretty, but all the same.

The rest of the engines out there are mini cupcakes of varying quality.
