I hate open space offices for following reasons
- bright environment (I cannot turn off the light just for my own)
- noises (talking, discussions, chewing)
- requests and questions
- people

But I still cannot afford to be in my own office room yet.
Now I have to wear a cap inside the office like a mad-hatter and plug my ears with earphones even without playing any music.

This is how I handle this:
    - Shades. Makes you look cool too.
    - Bose QC 35
    - <generic "File a ticket in JIRA" notice on the back of my chair>
    - ... solves by solving the above...

@AndSoWeCode you are right. I gotta add "Buy Shades" to my list.

@inpothet What's your setup (hardware, software)? Do you work in a 3D VR environment or is it simply a 2D projection of you desktop?

I've been meaning to research this but don't have time or VR gear.

It would be cool to code on top of a mountain or something.

@inpothet what setup are you using? Was thinking about using Oculus Rift.

Here's how i deal with lights. Switch the lights right near your desk.

Make up the excuse of having severe dry eyes and how bright lights affect your vision.

Then slowly expand your territory till you have enough darkness to feel comfortable.

Worked like a charm for me in my past company and now. Now my team mates sitting nearby me get irritated whenever some body turns on the lights. They swear, get up, walk up to the switches, turn off all the lights on the board and walk back mumuring expletives all the while.

And I sit relaxed leaning back on my chair thinking I am Yoda
