R3zz0R5657y@ThaOneDude open terminal with ctrl+alt+f2
Try to log in
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get upgrade
(That’s how a colleague of mine solved it) -
@shelladdicted Thanks but im changing from gnome to unity and checking to see if it works.

@Nanos @ewpratten @R3zz0R @shelladdicted Well i tried your solutions. They didnt work so... Im trying to roll back to a different kernel but thanks for trying.

@ThaOneDude there’s a bios bug in 17.10 that affects Lenovo. You can’t even download 17.10 iso from Ubuntu anymore. I know it’s patched with 17.10.1 (according to Lubuntu) so if you can get to console maybe see if you can dist-upgrade? (Disclaimer: not an Ubuntu-guru)

If it’s any help at all, a woman I was seeing last year had an ideapad for work running 17.10 (I think) and also had issues with her NIC. That was a kernel update so maybe also try booting with an older version of your kernel?
-
No worries. (: I just wish *nix had a way of re-installing over an existing installation without any effect (like macOS)
EDIT: I suppose it might do, I’ve just never seen it. -
Wait! I think I meant do-release-upgrade! Dist-upgrade might break things further 😱 #NoGuru
-
@scytheri0n i tried dist upgrade but nothing happened so it all worked out. Apart from the fact the problem still exists.
-
@ThaOneDude do-release-upgrade may still work (dist-upgrade won’t upgrade you from 16.04 to 17.10 eg AFAIK) so worth running it I guess
