Root797487y42 is also pronounced "Shi ni" in Japanese, which is extremely close to "shine," which means to "death."

Cool, but still not what DA had in mind..
Also love the explanation that @Root pointed out, but yet again..not confirmed by DA.. -
Froot75397yI think the creator even said that the number was completely random ๐
Edit: Here you go, sorry:

Root797487y@Froot is correct.
42 is an arbitrary number and has no meaning whatsoever.
I find the fact that people come up with meanings and theories for it is a perfect analogy for life ^^
either there really is no reason whatsoever, and people simply invent one that caters to their views and beliefs, or there actually is a hidden meaning, and anyone who discovers it looks to be a member of the former group. it's perfect. -
8R9097y@Root Well, you are correct that 4 is 'shi' and 2 is 'ni' in japanese, but just putting them together just becomes fourtwo and not fortytwo. Insert a 'juu' after the 'shi' to get it to forty and then add the 'ni'. Shijuuni or Yonjuuni for everyday/non-formal speech but I guess that kills the point of your comment, so forget I said anything...๐

Root797487y@8R90 Yeah. It's just another fan theory ๐
The answer is actually spoken aloud in the books, so the number can't really be interpreted that way, but the theory is still interesting/amusing regardless! -
zymk11027yIf you add up the positional number in the english alphabet you can get the word “math” = 42
M = 13th character
A = 1st
T = 20th
H = 8th
= 42
But this relies on arrays starting at 1 ๐

"42", the answer to life, the universe and everything, is the decimal representation for "*" in the ascii table. Got it? How cool is that?
