TIP:
To anyone and everyone ranting about the automatic restart of their Windows 10 system,
Settings > Update > Advanced Options > Notify to schedule restart (instead of Automatic).
Yes, it IS that simple.
God.

@enchance because, having used every version since 3.1, it's by far my favorite Windows OS.
The only people I find hating on Windows 10 fall into 3 categories:
    1. Hipsters / conspiracy theorists who haven't even tried it and just hate because it's cool.
    2. The idiots who did an in place upgrade instead of a clean install - which even Microsoft advises against.
    3. Those who don't know how to click a few switches in the control panel.

So simple that even Devs need to be told?

Not much hope for ordinary Users then is there?

    I think you're in denial!

@azuredivay THANK YOU! a rant which is right on spot!
You guys don't know how to use Windows, just learn it or google your issue and stop nagging about it like little babies.

@AdamGaskins haha, as long as the ranter wasn't a linux user hating on windows it's fine :P

@NoNameCode so it has to be disabled? Horrible UX

    @NoNameCode Damn :/! True

@SithLord auto restart for system updates, something that a lot of smart phones will do as well....
  • 0
@brettmoan does not make it good UX. Auto updates with auto restart, is not a very clever move

@SithLord are we really gonna speak UX?

@achehab IDK about you, but I am. That's ~45% of my job, so ofc. I talk about it

well if stating 90% of the market share goes for windows against < 2% for linux isn't considered an answer then i'm speechless.
    Goodnight O.o

@achehab just curious, what's your source for that?
  • 0
@AdamGaskins here is the source tbh i looked it up quickly, but do you really have doubt that most pple use windows and not linux? :P

@achehab nope I definitely believe it! I'm a Windows user myself. I was really just curious, that's all :)

Answer to what? UX != market share.

However I dislike Linux as anything but a server machine, it's not fit for a personal OS, no Linux distro has a nice UI (or UX for that matter)

I'm simply stating that auto upgrades and reboots is horrible user experience. You don't want your computer doing possibly breaking stuff automatically (what IF the update breaks shit? Does happen) + restarting all the sudden. Should be toggleable if anything, but not default.

Maybe I misunderstood, I'm not using Windows. And maybe I misunderstood your picture comment too. But using the amount of users as a reason for something being good, is not always correct.

    Examples:
    ---
    IE: had tons of users
Flash: tons of uses, yet so bad

And some unrelated and exaterrated ones
    ---
Donald Trump: man-child "politician" however seems to be able to win
Adolf Hitler: had tons of followers and support

@SithLord as a long time windows user I completely agree that the auto update absolutely sucks lol. even with it turned off, some updates still must be "scheduled to reboot in the next 24 hours" or whatever. that and the fragmented control panels are my main gripes with W10.

@SithLord i am agreeing with you here, but we were just diving in UX, if linux had better UX, probably it would be the default OS for most people. otherwise well said ^^
