Drop a note to Adobe about this, they will either provide free student licenses to your school or force them to stop using it, both the scenarios are better than current one.

Now I feel old for remembering that macromedia invented flash...

You would be surprised but many people prefer flash from adobe animate or after effects. Even some games are still made in flash but for me it was so messy to work with. Bad timeline etc. :) but remember Machinarium, Chuchel and so on.
