Which distro are you trying to install?
  • 1
@antorqs I have tried elementy os and linux mint. Disabled secure boot but its just getting stuck on anything to do with grub

Does the grub appear and then nothing?

or not even the grub appears?

Here is how I solved the same problem,
Disconnect the Computer from the internet and every other network and restart it,
    Flash a new Install-USB-Drive,
    Create a dedicated Boot-Partition.
    One of these should work.

@metamourge thanks, I have disconnected from the network, going to borrow my usb from work and flash that and will try the boot partition when I get home

I did a Linux install last week and ran into a similar problem. I believe your problem might be in the BIOS, although I am not sure because I did a Linux install on an USB Stick and had to add GRUB to the Windows Master Boot Record, so your problem might differ from mine.

    Here's what I did:

    - Boot into BIOS

    - Under "Security" Tab, set a supervisor password (you will need it to deactivate secure boot)

    - Under "Boot" Tab, select the mode appropriate for your Linux distro (terminal shows if it's being installed in Legacy or UEFI during the installation)

    - Disable "Secure Boot", which is a feature to protect you from Malware on Windows (hence you don't need it on a Linux installation)

    - Put GRUB as first booting priority

I attached a photo of my boot settings, hope it helps :)

Good news, flashed mint to my USB at work and it validated so now I just have to wait till I get home to try everything else...

@EldrichWeb best of luck and let me know if you need any more help!

Stay optimistic, my installation worked after the validation and a few tweaks.

Oh I forgot to add this image, that's what all my installs have been doing and getting stuck on

I normally use Xubuntu. Is nice and lightweight. If you are up to try another one, give it a go ;-)

    @SoulSkrix I used Ubuntu about 5 years ago :P

@SoulSkrix I have tried mint, elementary and pop which are all based off ubuntu

OK! Fedora seems to work, I finished the install without the boot loader so it seems I have to manually boot in but it works!!!!!!!

The problem with Ubuntu-based OSes may com from Ubiquity (the Ubuntu installer), not from the OS itself.
You could try the ubuntu-netinstall-iso, it uses a modified version of the text-based Debian-installer.
