@Linux I don't remember how old she was when she told me the story. Maybe like 17. And it had happened some time earlier. I wouldnt expect uninstalling a program affect my photos, but I dunno, maybe it's normal for macs. But I bet she learned the importance of backups.

Solid argument...
A friend of mine had a MacBook. She had a DSLR too and she used some software on her mac to transfer the files on it.
At one point she ran out of space and thought that it's a good idea to uninstall that software as a temporary solution. The software took all her childhood pictures with it.
