I kept piling on hard drives at home and you know... One day I'll setup some redundancy.
Then a 5 months old full 4TB drive gave up and I lost that data.
After that I've upgraded to having a ceph cluster storing everything.
At the beginning of this year one hard drive in the cluster gave up. I didn't notice until I wondered why available storage was low. Cluster had already rebalance itself and were running flawless.

I have never tried ceph actually, would be cool to learn it :)

Relativly easy to setup. But I would suggest to simulate failures to learn more about it before putting valuable data on it.
