Why does little shit bother me so much?
Trying to start a game of cyberpunk 2077. The opening area has a TV on. First I hate background shit, but I was watching the ads because they are kind of interesting. But it subtitles on the TV in the middle of the image on the TV. This bothered me so much that I got a couple of mods to make it so I can turn the tvs off/on, but also removes the subtitles.

If you have tv subtitles in game, why overlay it over the video? I have a feeling, despite all the mods I added, that this game is going to disappoint me again. I checked. I only have like 40 hours in this game according to steam. Did it really suck that bad? Or did I just not get into it?

I always disable subtitles even if it‘s in English. Subtitles break the emersion by forcing me to read them instead of looking at the important parts of the screen, where the story or the gameplay happens.

I might miss something due to not understanding a word or not hearing it properly, but it's worth it.

@Lensflare some subs are handy in game. People speak chinese in game and it shows translations above their head.

So I am playing and all the context menus disappeared. I find its a bug with the latest version of the engine. Restarting the game fixed this. How the fuck you mess up something so intrinsic to the game play. I feel like all I have done this playthrough is fight bugs. Is this really the state of art for AAA? Pumping out shit? I don't remember having bugs like this the last time I played.

@Demolishun indeed. There should be the option to show subs only for the languages that you haven‘t selected as yours.

@Lensflare the other day was watching a tv show with people synched on our individual computers. we were on voice chat. so problem is I can't listen to something playing and a person. this file in particular had 36 different subtitles, and the show often switches to characters who speak fluent other languages... instead of trying to find the one subtitle that only translated to English (actually I lie, I tried to find it and I couldn't) I left everything English subtitles on

I used to spend a great deal of my teen years watching subbed anime, so I reflexively read subtitles and quick. turns out I can read subtitles and hear people talk in voice chats without issue, not a single cross talked misunderstanding... but I can't understand anything if it's two audio tracks. why is my brain like this

audio processing disorder has overlap with ADHD. I've always been garbage with sound
