I have this impression that non-devs have this idea that you can ask for a developer to learn and implement a new technology with the same ease as ordering a Happy Meal.

Oh, you want me to learn a completely new technology, write very high quality, bug-minimal code, test it, document it, in a matter of hours?! Maybe senior devs can do this, but for me, it's like asking me to build software for NASA and guaranteeing it will work wonderfully without being given the time to thoroughly test it, design it or even think about it. Wooh, just code this as fast as possible and to industry standards quality!

Anyway... just another frustration.

it's like building a house it's just inside the digital matrix instead of real life

there's still a design to be had, specs / what the person actually wants, and you still have to run around and put up every beam, wall, and pipe for 2 months before the thing can be officially called a house

The amount of time we put in coding and how much we actually type and process information, i think a lot of people underestimate that a lot. They probably compare it with themselves browsing the internet and doing some clicks.

@retoor and then they make fun of me for talking / explaining too much!

tbf surprisingly devrant matrix chat did the same

every time you code you have to explain every little thing or reference what someone else already explained to the computer...
