@theKarlisK well if I get a raspberry pi, I’ll probably just use it as a server or install pi hole on it haha 😅
-
@Electrux but pis are more expensive than phones you already have.
Especially if you need to buy a few mics, speakers, cameras and screens. -
@Codex404 that may be true... but I can’t put up my phone as a server or ad blocker for entire home... can I?
-
@theKarlisK phones are powerful enough to use as pihole or a small server. Graphically most phones perform better than a Pi as well
-
Oh... well I’m that case never mind what I said and perhaps just tinker around with ur phone 😁
-
@theKarlisK The intercom idea sure seems interesting 👀
@Electrux Do you have any idea if phones support pihole out of the box, or if there is some phone linux distro? -
@Proximyst pi hole supports the major Linux distros... assuming u can get one to install on ur phone, u should theoretically be able to install pi hole easily... I think Debian or Ubuntu should be easiest
-
@Electrux Installing any linux distro on any of the phones will probably be the hardest part tbh. Might be better off with trying to run it with Magisk or something
-
@Proximyst Gold plated circuit boards, connector pins, ICs, ceramic capacitors my friend.
Google it. Not worth a try but if you have a lot of scrap, then it's worth. -
@Proximyst , I wish there was some OS that had only a PDF reader. Just that. Nothing else. (Cry me a Kindle I have no money) but it would be so amazing.
-
@Electrux android is a linux distro of sorts. When unlocked it can run a regular pihole as well. Although a server distro is probably faster.
-
@Codex404 Is there any raw linux distro, though? I.e. not Android, but an actual distro which is installable as Arch is
@N1teshsurana I DONT HAVE ANTS AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA -
lulebe466yMake IOT devices out of them. A camera, a digital assistant, or put them into a case with some speakers and use Spotify to remotely play music.
-
Rohr7356yI remember there was a modded linux able to run on a Galaxy Nexus and Nexus 4. A friend of mine use the nexus 4 as a small home server (just a Apache and small file share) with an otg attached HDD ... I think you can not have something more energy efficient in that category :D
-
@RantSomeWhere I think I'll rather stick with CopperheadOS, as that's just about perfect for me as of now.
@Rohr Link? 👀 -
Rohr7356y@Proximyst found it on XDA those days ... dont have it handy atm but will have a look later and will let you know ;)
but, I did not follow up on this thing since then. even if I find it, I don't know if it got maintained over the years.
Found some of my old phones, what should I do with 'em? Almost all of them run LineageOS already (i.e. all but the iPhone 6) with TWRP, so they are definitely available modification
