Everyone here complaining about Windows updates...

Your not forced to use it at gun point.

Windows is garbage, end of story. So either stop fucking using such garbage or stop fucking complaining about it!

I get the feeling you all like complaining more than you like having a good computer though...

    @AlpineLinnix Gaming, yes.

    Windows development, yes.

    School, yes.

    Every other reason, garbage.

You ALWAYS have a choice. Even when you (and others) convince yourself you don’t.

The solution to using a piece of garbage is NOT to use an old outdated piece of garbage.

Some of us really have no choice. It's called work.
    "Find another job". No.

I was in the same spot a few years back. Instead of complaining I did something about it.

I started recording all the wasted time by Windows. Did this for 1 month. Then calculated the cost for the company based on my salary.

I hosted a meeting (I should say I forced a meeting because they knew what I wanted to talk about and didn’t want to hear it). They saw that they had already wasted more money than a decent machine would cost.

In the end they didn’t cave. So I started using my personal laptop, and sending them invoices (which I never expected paid) for the usage of my personal machine.

Then a month later a person left the company and had a Mac. They wanted to give it to our new PO hire and I told them to either get me a good machine or I would quit...

They got me a good machine and we all moved on happily.

The point is, you have a choice.

But you also have a choice to keep using a pile of garbage and keep complaining about how the garbage smells.

    Do as you please

@leanrob Company policy? Needing an income would be a fair reason.

Company I work for use Windows heavily, from ms office to Active Directory and everywhere in between including network access and anything that AD can be attached to 🤷‍♂️

To not use Windows would basically mean I can’t do my job, on the other hand, loading up a vm with a Linux distro spread over 2 screens bridged back to the windows network is completely fine, as long as the host is windows.

So no, not everyone has a choice, but there’s usually that grey area you can walk along.
