Back in the day, php used to be insecure and lacking in features. since then, the language has improved, but the hate and negativity has remained

@DavRant There also is a lot of old documentation and tutorials and maybe even more bad advice out there that new PHP devs can pick up - I've seen tutorials advise to use str_replace to substitute quotes to prevent SQLi, I've seen sites advise storing images as BLOBS...

PHP isn't bad if you do it properly, but learning to do it properly can be hard.

Cuz they don't know Perl, which is even worse
