When your director wants a single flat static webpage(a simple advertisement with a form), but forces you to create it within Wordpress

....talk about clunky

There could be good reasons to do it with WP, if the rest of the site is done with it, if customer needs to change content etc.

Otherwise it sounds kinda unnecessary. Not a big fan of WP :/

I have experienced WP has its pluses and minuses. Some things that should be easy are more difficult than necessary. Using it depends on your goals.

The clunkiness is generally in the theme implementation in my experience. If the theme is designed properly by a seasoned developer it can be quite powerful. Most times I see the bad case where a developer uses a theme framework and a ton of plugins to get the job done. That's where things tend to turn south. For doing a 1-off page, you can build that pretty easily by creating a custom page template. No reason it needs to be more dynamic than including the header and footer! (If even that!)

I love WordPress like chocolate and puppies, and I still agree, it's overkill in this case.

One good thing about WP is that it's getting re-written in JavaScript :D
