People talk about how the use of Linux as a desktop requires an inordinate amount of time, as if that's a unique problem in Linux. There is no such thing as an operating system that I don't spend weeks and months tweaking to make my own.

The difference is that Linux doesn't resist me like other OSes.

    No, not really. The only real distinction between distributions is the packages that come installed, the package manager, some system architecture, and a couple config settings. There are some more things, but none rigidly affect the graphical user interface.
