HAHA! Google just got fined 4.34bn EUR by the EU! According to the EU they forced manufacturers to preinstall their search app and browser. In my opinion, a fine like this is a nice statement, but doesn't really affect a company that makes 111bn US$ per year. I think there needs to be proper taxation for GAFA!
What do you guys think?

    In case no one gets what Alice meant, read the little bullet list here:

    @Alice nobody today uses milliard in english, sadly, so they always mean 10^9

    It is their operating system, though.

    Makes me want to reconsider going to an upcoming interview with them tbh

    What would happen if google told the EU to buff their balls?

    I know I'm supposed to be happy that a big company got hit hard, but then I realized, the EU is just a larger company. Those dollars aren't going to indie devs or consumers. They're going to a union.

    @Proximyst in Spanish, we use 10^12 for billion, so for example, in a TV show about astronomy, "14 billion years" is translated to "14 thousand million years", so sometimes translated articles can say billions when they meant trillions...

    But yeah it's obv billions lmao if it were trillions Google would probably just declare bankrupt across all its European branches

    @Alice and everyone else:
    this money is not added to the EU budget but rather substracted from the state contribution! And pleeaaase don't be so narrow minded that you see the EU's decision only from a dev's view. Yes, the copyright changes are shit and yes, GPDR makes a our job harder, but seriously? GPDR is an important step towards data transparency and the new cookie laws f.e. are very pleasing! And isn't solving logical challenges exactly what makes a good software developer?
    Other than that, the EU is much more than just some institution that makes weird laws but also a connection that holds all the seperate countries in Europe together! Imagine the UNITED States of America all scattered as individual states! They would never have achieved any of what they are now!
