Thanks @Anderson! I guess :wp :wn etc. made the most sense, but I don't use the "real" features of vim yet

:! to run a shell command without leaving vim!

And :o to open or create a new file, then :b0, :b1, :b2.. to jump between them.

Since I was introduced to vim using :w :q, it seemed obvious to me to use :wq
