I wouldn't recommend getting a mechanical one, can't dee that ending well for you.

arminiae5658yWe had a colleague once who insisted on getting a mechanical with blue switches.. and on not silencing his annoying mobile tones.. and yelling across rooms/hallways when having any conversation... -_- needless to say, nobody misses that guy.

I like the thin aluminium ones from Apple. Even for non-Apple computers. Be sure to buy one with a cable and numpad though.

nmunro31888yI have one built from an amalgamation of a dell base, shirt buttons (not even joking), type writer parts, wood and brass.
It makes a weird dull thud noise and frankly when I can afford this one (http://www.qwerkywriter.com/) I'll replace it.
My work mates can't really say anything about the dull thwacking noise cos it looks so damn cool! -
KimDotSe7628y@nblackburn that's what I thought. Guess I have to find some nice non mechanical one... Tnx

KimDotSe7628y@nmunro Wow that one looks freaking awesome! 😁 but I can't see myself coming to work first day with that under my arm lol!
-
nmunro31888y@KimDotSe Keep it in your bag and swap it out over lunch or after hours when noone else is looking and leave it there until someone walks over and realises what you have.

Michal786178yI had to take mine home again. Got used to semi-mechanical now. :-)
(Now, my girlfriend is annoyed by all the clickety-click) -
I actually really like the standard Dell that's been going out with the current generation. it's mechanical but with about half the key travel of your usual Dell keyboards and it isn't too loud. it's surprised me how nice it is to type on. if you do a lot of typing on laptops, it's a good one that isn't that big of a difference.
I also still love my Microsoft 3000 keyboard at home, for a lot of the same reasons. -
code keyboard made by wasd.. hands down the best keyboard I've ever had the pleasure of using. Mine has the brown switches, and the oring dampeners, the dampeners are absolutely necessary and do a good job as long as you're not seated RIGHT next to someone..

You guys who code in an office, what kind of keyboard are you using? I'm starting a new job and I guess a mechanical wouldn't be appreciated?
