I used to teach js to 8th graders and I'm pretty convinced that it's all about the approach we take. A lot of beginners are worried about the syntax of a for loop and many of the tutorials, that's what they'd teach. But when you start realizing why is the world you want a for loop then things start click in your head. It's exciting to experience and exciting to teach too!

you don't need linux to do php. find a free/cheap hoster or install wamp. a good practice might be something like a blog. has a simple database that will be read and processed by php. for the start forget about safety issues (remember these later on). if you go on with an administration or comments questions and topics will raise and advance you automatically

I think you can try Codecourse channel on YouTube for PHP. They've got some nice tutorials.

For others, try thenewboston. He's got a lot of tutorials. I'm suggesting these because they're all free and I've tried them. :D
