What's so wrong with having no name for my position?
I mean, it's only me in this startup.
I AM THE STARTUP, DAMMIT.

Do I really have to start calling myself a CEO just to appear trustworthy?
But how does one become a Chief if there's nobody to supervise?

Hustler? Rockstar? Too 'startup'ish and just sad.
Entrepreneur? Founder? Sounds like something a scammer would use.

I'll just stick to leaving my position blank on my business card, thank you.

    Have you tried hiring people yet to become a real CEO?
    You can’t wear all the hats.

    You may write owner, if this help because you really own the startup

    @FahadAlt I make just enough to feed myself right now, it's only been 3 months since launch of my first product.

    There have been several investment offers so that I could hire a designer, but it'll set the company back in the long run.

    Owner does sound OK I guess.

    @Yahoo what kind of product do you do ?

    @Lyguion I run an online platform for interpreters.

    @Yahoo well, Congrats in your Startup wish you the best of luck!

    From couple scenarios I have seen, some startups needs the extra working hands in order to balance the demands and improve your product.

    But nothing wrong with taking stuff slowly, since you aren’t gaining more than your needs.

    @FahadAlt

    Thanks man, really appreciate it.

    Currently I work 14~18 hours a day without weekends, but that's enough to get things done within deadlines... So no problems there.

    But hopefully I'll be financially capable of hiring someone soon :D

    Avg. 16 hours everyday is starting to tax my health...

    Doesn't CEO mean like "decide, what the company is doing?"
    You are the one who decides on execution of things.
    So practically, you are the CEO. It's not about people being supervised.

    When it comes to law, you are the CEO.

    On the same hand you are the COO, cus you actually are supervising and controlling as ordered by the CEO (you), too.

    @nitwhiz CEO stands for Chief Executive Officer.
    If there are no other Officers, you can't really be the leader of them.

    @nitwhiz

    Let's say you meet two guys from a 2-men startup. One is the founder and has no IT background. And the other guy is the only dev in the startup claims to be a CTO.

    CTO in a startup with 1 dev? I'd laugh at them, really loud, inside.

    Same goes to CEO, I think. CEO of 1 man startup? Heh...

    (Note that my advisor doesn't count, since he's not an employee.)

    @PrivateGER @Yahoo
    German, because the english wikipedia doesn't state this. Whyever.
    But PrivateGER is going to understand it.
    There are no further officers necessary. CEOs are to decide which steps a company takes. Whoever really executes these steps, maybe the CEOs themselves, but tecnically, you are the CEO of that company. At least law-wise.

    @nitwhiz
    Legally, yes.
    Legally, I can call myself anything. (At least in Australia.)

    But there's always that gap between what's legally possible and what's socially common and widely accepted :D

    @Yahoo i see that, yeah :D

    You could be the president or chairman also

    Could I get the link to your platform?

    have you tried putting all of the titles you do behind your name?
    [name], Owner, CEO, CTO, programmer, designer, PR, accountant, multihat/multiskill person doing everything that needs to be done.

    looks pretty cool, at least for some people.

    or, go for "[name], one-man-company, because i can do all of it by myself, you lazy, dumb, incompetent 'specialized' pieces of shit :-P"

    You're the only one that has to know you're the only one. Sell your company to people as if you have a team. "I'll have my designer take a look at that and I'll come back with something." "I'll have our dev put something together so you can see it." "We'll have to check the numbers and get back to you." Just play like you have a team and call yourself whatever title fits the situatoon, if you're putting it online you can go with CEO because essentially that's what you are even though you're everything else as well.

    @sylar182
    That's what I do when I 'sell' my product.
    But not when I'm having a meeting with potential partners; they deserve to know at least some details other people do not know of.

    @MarkoVlaic0 Would love to, but no. Sorry.

    @Yahoo okay, cheers!

    @Yahoo Almost all startups go deep in the red to grow, employees are paid using investments.

    If investors are offering money, and there is elasticity in demand, seriously consider going for it. Of course pick a suitable business form to protect your private assets. But it's rarely a good idea to wait for profit before hiring employees.
