I dislike the idea of therapists. I mean, not the people who study human behaviour to help understand it but the people who try to "fix" another person's problems.

My reason for this is that they're human themselves and I'd say it's pretty obvious that we don't know exactly how the mind works so it's basically like trying to fix an airplane with only half or even less of the blueprints.

The reason I don't like them being human themselves is because we are fallible, you can't guarantee or at least have a extremely high probability of the same prevention or treatment rate as you maybe could with a computer. It's not repeatable. Then again, we don't have the "blueprints" so to speak so it's kind of hard to say.

Your thoughts?

    long story short:
a good therapist will never try to „fix“ you or someone else
a good one will try to help you „fix“ yourself for what you need

We have all the blueprints, but our society is a bunch of fucked up engineering interns left alone in the factory building.

You could say the same about medical doctors. And just like with those, there are good ones and bad ones.

Or so I'm told. I haven't had the pleasure yet. I have had some great, free conversations, though. I imagine it's similar.

So I can see your point, but look at it like this:

You are piloting a plane, and landing is not an option. The plane is falling apart, but you are just a pilot so you only know some of the basics of plane maintenance and repair. One of the engines is about to fall off, and with your limited abilities you can climb out and duct tape that fucker back on OR you can get help from an engineer who admittedly has never worked with this exact model of plane but has studied planes extensively and worked with other planes and maybe, just maybe, has some better ideas than duct tape.

Let's say your therapist has been doing this everyday for thirty years.

Would you trust him to help you.. Because.. because he's just a human..

Who has been doing that job for thirty years...

His job is to put aside himself and focus on you..

With hundreds of years of science... And his thirty years experience..

He could have cried an hour before about losing his pet dog while wearing his wife's panties

He is still going to be able to help you in that hour

Hence.. Being human.. With a job.. That he has thirty years experience with..
