I have always thought that I am to dumb to become a dev, but after a few years doing sysadmin shit I have realized that even the most stupid, dumb and idiotic people can be a wordpress developer!

There is still hope for me

I'm not really sure how development gets this image of being an intellectual pursuit.

It's really about practice and experience.

I presume that it's because of this false link between it and mathematics.

No-one should believe they aren't smart enough to code. It's open to all---which is one of its attractive qualities.

Can't argue a sys admin when talks about WordPress, you guys make sure those websites stay up and running....

Thinking of it, you guys betray us, just shutdown all servers running wordpress and set this world free -_-

Well, developers write code, we deploy it to the servers and make sure that it stays up and running and connects well across hosts. I'd love to see a dev who gets the idea of routing, kernel patching and server redundancy.. and can deploy it. Or mail servers which are a total bitch that eat away your sanity. Or hyperconvergence, security, SELinux, all sorts of stuff. Cisco and their (IMO crappy) iOS! Making sure that the physical servers stay in good shape, and that disks can be swapped out when one fails, that they're redundant, …

In other words, don't sell yourself short like that. Their craft is to build code, our craft is to give them the means to run it in a stable, secure environment.. and both are equally valuable and often mutually exclusive :)

Well, people earn their money with WordPress. I wouldn't necessarily call them developers though :>
