fkvx1378yI saw "Sequel" and "Postgres-kull". They just roll off the tongue better than acronyms for me.
-
yarwest27158yI always say SQL, but a teacher of mine (teacher database structure) always said sequel. On top of that, I once saw a really good reasoning as to why it would be sequel, forgot it tho .-.

Sequel takes less time to say than SQL. I though we were all about performance ? ;)
-
I read that it's because the roots were in sequel , which later was shortened to sql. I think it's odd when I hear people say SQL. however, my primary world revolves around Microsoft SQL server which mostly tends to this. I think the culture, dialect and back ground of the person all have bearing here.
if you think this is bad.... try entering into the nightmare of varcar vs varchar :-) -
@jtmcn Thats how I understand it, yes. But when I read "SQL" I can never make up my mind how to say it out loud :D
-
I personally prefer S Q L, but it really depends on each person. except in cases like MySQL which specify pronunciation:
The official way to pronounce “MySQL” is “My Ess Que Ell” (not “my sequel”).
Taken from their docs ( https://dev.mysql.com/doc/refman/... ) -
@jltorresm "The official way to pronounce “MySQL” is “My Ess Que Ell” (not “my sequel”), but we do not mind if you pronounce it as “my sequel” or in some other localized way."
They better not mind as I'm going to do it! Just like I care not for the creator of gifs suggestion of jif...
Sequel or S Q L?
I find myself dipping between the two recently depending on who I'm talking to. It's driving my insane and I can't stop myself -_-
