It's interesting that the most capable developers I have met have a harder time getting a job than the incapable ones.

All things equal, but skill, it's annoying to see.

That's because the most skilled program as a hobby and are self taught. Colleges teach theory but alot of theory does not work in the wild

@PerfectAsshole Some of the worst coders I’ve ever encountered were self-taught.

@devios1 I'm not talking php devs. The worst devs I've seen were from my college.

I've found that it doesn't make much of a difference. People that went to university for such things, may in some cases not poses talent. However, people that are self taught can sometimes be over-specialized.

The best programers I've met had these qualities:
    - Hard working
    - Constantly learning
    - Passionate

@ODXT I agree. I think what really makes the difference is passion to learn.

Formally-educated people may lack that desire just as much as self-taught people may have it.

Dunning-Kruger at work. Incompetent idiots don't even know that they are dumb. Their ignorance gives them self-confidence - unwarranted, but honest. And that's what cuts in interviews.

Because we humans are still primarily apes without much fur.
