So I'm on a holiday in Germany and apparently the place where I'm staying "verifies" the connected devices to their WiFi manually

That's just a filter, only those who have a little more knowledge about computers will be able to use it.
Could've be solved digitally though, that's true.

@jonii what do you mean about it being a filter?

IP?! I understand MAC because it cant be changed. Ip on the other hand has to be provided after wifi connection is established.

    What is going on there?

    Welcome to devRant @shinypotato!
    Also wow

    @Gregozor2121 exactly what I thought 😁

Welcome to germany where the parking meters are still accepting coins. Not as an option. But as the only method of payment.

@Vuetiful so do bakeries (cash only, at least) and apparently this touristic (?) city I'm in

@Gregozor2121 I think they don't use DHCP to assign IP's. Only possibilty i can think is : you fill your name and MAC there, then they will fill IP themselves. For example 10.0.0.23 is yours, 10.0.0.24 mine etc.

Great way to be trolled by someone who has little knowledge of spoofing...

@illegaldisease to be honest, I don't even know what that paper is for. I mean, we connected to the WiFi normally and nobody gave us any "manually" given IP. The host only asked us to search all those data in our devices and complete it for each device used

@shinypotato More reason to not deal with their shit :(

All of that could be done digitally very easily. I mean, you don't even need to use any 3rd party program...

So just enter gibberish info, i don't think they will ever notice if you enter AK:1Y:23:24:5Y:GQ as mac adress for example :D

@illegaldisease we'll just leave them blank :D better than being accused of giving false info

@shinypotato If that works, why not :D it is a stupid idea anyways, never seen something like that before.

@Gregozor2121 MAC is pretty much worthless too, the vast majority of modern NIC's will allow you to modify your MAC.

@Gregozor2121 Your Mac can be changed every time you want.
