    Maybe.... in the last 5 years, I've gone from unemployed to lab tech to data analyst to developer. hard to say what the next 5, 10, or 20 years will bring

    i've a few years ahead of me until i reach level 45, i hope to still be developing by then.

    you can be a tech lead and develop at the same time. I don't see a problem with being a dev at 45. lots of knowledge comes from experience and who has lots of experience? ;)

    I've put too much effort into this, just to go and switch careers or go into management and not use the precious experience I've gained over the years.
