mhall2748yDefinitely not! Chef was once top of my list of profession choices ... Until I looked at average salaries. Then it was dropped like a mishandled souffle!
This was back in the 80s. But I just met a young lady who is a trained chef and spent 30K on a degree.
She was a sous chef, but she's now serving because she decided she didn't want to work 60-80 hrs/week for no money. So it seems things haven't really changed.
I still enjoy cooking though, but nothing particularly fancy ... -
I love cooking, baking, being in the kitchen. I make my own meals when I can. Thankfully we have a kitchen at work, so I can make fresh stuff there instead of having to bring it from home (not everything tastes so good on the second day)

620hun81888yFast food is always the last resort, especially now that I need to lose weight. I live with my girlfriend who really got into cooking, so it's usually her who does it, but I can cook too.

Tonyobyo3128yI'm a type 1 diabetic and, though I haven't always had the healthiest lifestyle, over the past 2 years I've been on a strict weight training and nutrition regiment.
Definitely enjoy cooking and preparing my own food not just for the physical benefits but because it keeps you sharper mentally as well. -
kostre4368yI also like cooking. In overall, I really like doing stuff that give me instant result. While coding, you can always check your progress. Same with cooking. I don't really know why, but standing in the kitchen and making delicious food is kinda relaxing for me :D

I love great food and cooking for others but when it comes to eat for myself at home I can survive for weeks by feeding of frozen pizzas
</shame> -
I love to cook and have fresh meals. The texture and taste of the highly processed stuff can't compete. But I'm not good enough at it to be an efficient cook, so when time is scarce, frozen food and microwave it is.
Plus it takes a good amount of planning to keep from creating waste when using fresh foods. -
A real programmer has no time for cooking just for coding, just kiddind I love to cook my own food and its a really good hobby for distracting my mind other than coding, but somethimes when you're really deep into some code you don't want to go away from the computer for a long time so we eat whatever its faster

Tonyobyo3128yAnd I also have to add that it's become extremely therapeutic for me. Especially when work becomes stressful and my anxiety levels go through the roof, being able to focus on something else that I also know is good for me makes everything better
-
remka1128yDepends how much time/motivation I have.
Also it's nice to have someone beyond yourself to enjoy the food you cook. :) -
I love cooking food, it's so much fun... Except if it's only for me. I can starve myself to death if I have no one to share a meal with
-
fermac1128yFor me, cooking makes the cut when I need to stop for a while and take my mind off a bug or problem. When I get back to it, my brain seems to work quite better!
-
I cook all the time for all the reasons others have mentioned. I also have a few select frozen things from Trader Joe's for when I'm really deep into a zone and can't be bothered. Suits both of us well.

Baking has always been one of my great loves. Over the past couple years I've really been getting into cooking as well. Not only is making homemade food so much better and cheaper, I've found its a splendid way for my girlfriend and I to spend some quality time together :)

clerklee02yWe get a homemade flavor for Food at Wawa Convenience stores. Wawa Fresh Food Menu Nutrition is impressive. Participate in mywawavisit.page Survey and win free hoagies for a year.
Am I the only one who likes to cook home-made food instead of getting junk pizzas and/or other awful stuff?
Is the dev community inherently kitchen-averse?
